These terms explain how Koilemi works and the rules everyone agrees to when they buy or sell building materials on Koilemi. Please read them with our Privacy Policy, Escrow Protection, Delivery Policy and Returns, Refunds and Disputes policy, which form part of these terms. Suppliers must also accept the Supplier Terms.
1. Who we are
Koilemi (“Koilemi”, “we”, “us”) runs an online marketplace that connects buyers of building and construction materials with independent, verified suppliers in Nigeria. Koilemi is a marketplace. Unless a listing clearly says otherwise, the supplier named on the product page sells the materials to you, and the contract of sale is between you and that supplier. Koilemi provides the platform, collects payment, holds it under our escrow process, supports delivery tracking and helps resolve problems.
2. Using Koilemi
- You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter a binding contract. If you use Koilemi for a company, you confirm that you are authorised to act for it.
- Keep your sign-in details private. You are responsible for activity on your account. Tell us straight away if you think someone else has used it.
- Give accurate information, especially your phone number, delivery address and site contact, so suppliers can deliver.
- We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, is used for fraud, or puts other users at risk. Orders already paid will still be handled fairly under these terms.
3. Listings and prices
- Suppliers write their own listings and set their own prices, minimum order quantities and stock. They must describe materials accurately, including grade, size, weight, quantity and any certification.
- Prices are in Nigerian naira (₦). The price you pay is the one shown in your cart at checkout, plus the delivery fee shown before you pay. Flash sale prices apply only until the end date shown on the product.
- Pictures may be illustrations. If a picture and the written description differ, the written description applies.
- Products marked “Deal of the day” are featured because the supplier paid Koilemi to promote them. Being featured is not a recommendation or a guarantee by Koilemi.
- We try to keep the site accurate, but mistakes happen. If a price is clearly wrong, we or the supplier may cancel the order and refund you in full.
4. Ordering and paying
- When you pay, you make an offer to buy. The order is confirmed once Paystack confirms your payment and we send you an order confirmation.
- Payments are processed by Paystack, a licensed payment processor. Koilemi does not see or store your full card details.
- If your order includes materials from more than one supplier, each supplier delivers and is paid separately.
- A supplier may decline an order they cannot fulfil, for example if stock has run out. If that happens, you get a full refund for the affected items.
5. Escrow, delivery and inspection
Koilemi’s escrow process is explained in full on the Escrow Protection page. In short:
- Your payment is held under our escrow process, not released to the supplier as their payout, while your materials are prepared and delivered.
- Each delivery has a delivery PIN. Give it to the driver only when the materials have arrived on site.
- After you confirm delivery (or share your PIN), you have 7 days to report a problem. After that, the supplier’s payout is released.
- If a supplier marks a delivery as arrived and you do nothing, delivery is confirmed automatically after 14 days, and the 7-day window then runs.
6. Problems, refunds and disputes
If materials arrive damaged, short, wrong or not as described, report it from your order within the inspection window. Koilemi reviews the evidence from both sides and decides whether the supplier replaces the items, you are refunded, or the claim is not upheld. See Returns, Refunds and Disputes.
7. Fees
Buyers pay the price of the materials and the delivery fee shown at checkout. Koilemi does not add a separate buyer fee. Suppliers pay Koilemi a commission of 7.5% of the value of the goods sold, plus VAT at 7.5% on that commission, and may pay for optional promotions such as Deal of the day.
8. Reviews and content
- Only buyers who have received an order can review it. Reviews must be honest, relevant and respectful.
- We may remove reviews, messages or listings that are false, abusive, unlawful or that share someone else’s personal information.
- By posting content on Koilemi, you allow us to display it on Koilemi and in our marketing about Koilemi.
9. What you must not do
- Arrange to pay a supplier outside Koilemi for an order started on Koilemi. Payments made outside Koilemi are not covered by escrow protection.
- List or buy counterfeit, stolen, unsafe or illegal goods, or materials that do not meet the Nigerian standards that apply to them.
- Give false information, impersonate someone else, or misuse delivery PINs.
- Interfere with the site, scrape it, or try to get around our security.
10. Our responsibility to you
- Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act 2018 or any other law that cannot be excluded.
- Suppliers are responsible for the quality, safety, fitness for purpose and legality of the materials they sell. Always follow your engineer’s or builder’s specifications when choosing materials.
- To the extent the law allows, Koilemi is not responsible for indirect losses such as delay to a building project, lost profit or labour costs. Our total responsibility for any order is limited to the amount you paid Koilemi for that order.
- We are not responsible for delays or failures caused by events outside our reasonable control, such as strikes, fuel scarcity, road closures, flooding, network outages or government action.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as Koilemi grows. The date at the top shows when they last changed. If a change is significant, we will tell registered users by email before it takes effect. Orders placed before a change follow the terms in force when they were placed.
12. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. If you have a complaint, please contact us first so we can try to resolve it. If we cannot agree within 30 days, either side may refer the matter to mediation at the Lagos Multi-Door Courthouse. If mediation does not resolve it, the courts of Lagos State have jurisdiction. You may also contact the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission.
